Why Does Advertising Work?

When I was growing, I used to wonder why did advertising even work? Wasn’t advertising just a giant scam? How could companies get away with spending millions of dollars on ineffective campaigns and not see any results? Well, I was young and dumb and didn’t have all the answers then, but now I know the reason why advertising works.

Advertising works!

Advertising works because it reaches people who are already thinking one way, and advertisers target this type of person. You can look at television advertising and observe that people react very differently to different things. You will see advertisements for fast food, shoes, video games, etc. Their advertisements are designed carefully in a way to appeal to those people who have that kind of need. Advertisers realise that it’s easier to make a little bit of money when you’re targeting the right people. That means that it’s much more likely for someone to respond to an ad if they already have a need for that kind of product.

The advertisements show how greatly the product can satisfy their need. Further, with the use of various psychological tricks, an ad attempts to fix the product in the unconscious mind of customers, who then suddenly remember it when they go shopping. The ads also make the customers feel like they are being treated as a king or queen. It’s because of this that advertising has such a profound effect on society. Advertisers want to cash in on this feeling to target specific groups of people. The key is targeting the right group of people.

Marketing through print media

Finally, you have print advertising. Companies do not generally use this form of advertising, but it can work if you know how to do it right. You can provide some great deals in newspapers, magazines, and other publications if you know the right places at which people look for them. If one wants to make the most of your advertising through print media, you should be sure to target the audience interested in your product or service.

Some people will argue that television advertising works better than any other medium because people spend so much time watching this medium. While television may not be a necessity, it is certainly something that people love to do. The more tv shows they watch, the more advertisements they come across, again and again, causing them to form the memory of the products, the ads of which they found appealing.

The Internet also works great for advertising. Many people use the Internet to research, shop, and even find information about a particular product. Thus, by targeting such researching customers, advertising online has become one of the most popular ways for companies to market their products and services.

With all of these methods, you will be able to get the results you are looking for. When you are starting initially, you may not see immediate results. Once you have set yourself as a trustworthy brand in the minds of the customers, you will see many people buying your products and services. Thus advertising is more like an investment that you need to make now to see great results in future.
